Joseph M. Barrett

Eric Thornton is a principal with the law firm of Ramsey, Thornton & Barrett, PLC.

Mr. Thornton graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1995 with a B.A. in Sociology/Criminal Justice.  Mr. Thornton earned his J.D. Degree from the University of Memphis, Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in 1998.

While in law school, Mr. Thornton received many honors and awards.  He received the award for Honorable Mention Best Oral Advocate in 1996, was the Champion for the 1996 Moot Court Competition, was the Champion for the 1997 Advanced Moot Court Competition, and won the award for Best Legal Brief in the 1997 Advanced Moot Court Competition.

Mr. Thornton's practice has included serving as general legal counsel for the majority of the banks in Dickson County.  In addition, Mr. Thornton currently represents the Dickson County Trustee, Dickson County Industrial Development Board, Hickman County Industrial Development Board, Dickson Housing Authority and Dickson County Airport Authority.  Mr. Thornton served as the County Attorney from 2002 until 2006.  Mr. Thornton represented the Dickson County Highway Department from 2002 until 2010.

Since joining Mr. Ramsey in 1998, Mr. Thornton has represented and assisted all of the various real estate brokers, real estate agents and contractors in the area.  There are few properties in the area that do not have the fingerprints of Ramsey, Thornton & Barrett, PLC on their vesting deeds or loan documents.  In addition, Mr. Thornton has served as legal counsel and/or investor in several notable projects in his local community including, but not limited to, Applebee's, Goodwill, Logan's, Roxy Theater, Office Depot, Peeble's, Farmer's Family Restaurant, Center Pointe Plaza, Merchants of East Hills Shopping Center, Dickson Title, LLC and Crestview Office Park.  Mr. Thornton is currently serving on a local board that is working on a campaign to build a YMCA in Dickson County.  Mr. Thornton's passion is working on the projects that involve the development of businesses and real estate that will result in positive growth and progress in his local community.  His passion for real estate and development is visible throughout his community.

Mr. Thornton enjoys spending time with his two children, Chase and Hayley, on their farm in Charlotte, Tennessee.  Mr. Thornton also enjoys competing in marathons and triathlons.  His most recent achievement has been completing the Ford Ironman Louisville race.
